MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
1. What's the easiest way to get to downtown Vancouver?
ANSWER: Leave Chickadee Tree driving out the way you came. Drive back up 3rd St., turn left on Mathers and drive past churches to STOP sign. Turn LEFT and bear RIGHT as you enter exit road from Highway #1. You'll be heading to Taylor Way. Turn LEFT at light and head down to Marine Drive and the Park Royal Shopping Center. Turn LEFT on Marine Drive, keep right, and prepare to cross Lion's Gate Bridge. Cross the bridge into Stanley Park and proceed into the city.
2. Where's the nearest shopping centre?
ANSWER: Park Royal! Follow directions above in #1 until you get to Marine Drive. At the stop light, Park Royal Shopping Center will be on your right on BOTH SIDES OF THE ROAD! Don't worry, once you get parked and settled, a "shuttle bus" will take you from one side to the other! You'll find a liquor store, on the north side lower level and a specialty wine store on the south side. In addition to Super Value (food market), there are many other specialty shops.
3. How do I get to the nearest postal outlet or bank?
ANSWER: Both can be found in Edgemont Village. Follow instructions for #12 below. You'll see 3 banks as you drive through the village. The postal outlet is in the stationary store (greeting cards, etc.) on your left, in the last block of village shops.
4. Where's the nearest liquor store, cold wine/beer store, food market?
ANSWER: A liquor store, food market, and fresh produce shop can be found at Park Royal (as described above). Another near-by liquor store, market, and fresh produce shop can be found at Westview Shopping Centre. Just take Highway #1 EAST (stay right) and get off at the Westview Exit. Turn LEFT at top of exit ramp, then LEFT again into the shopping centre.
On Sundays and holidays you can find a cold wine/beer store by following directions to Westview Shopping Centre, but pass by the centre because the government liquor store is closed. Continue on Westview to next stop light and turn RIGHT on Queens. Go right to the top of Queens (Queens and Lonsdale) and you'll see the Queen's Cross Pub on the RIGHT. Look for the signs directing you to the cold wine/beer area.
5. How do I get into Stanley Park?
ANSWER: Follow directions for #1 above, but stay right as you cross Lion's Gate Bridge. As you leave the bridge, watch for an entrance to the park on your RIGHT. Take that entrance and follow the scenic drive around the park. (If you miss this entrance, you'll have to go all the way into the city, turn around, and re-enter the park from the city side). If you are taking the TROLLEY TOUR, follow the scenic drive around the park and follow the signs to the AQUARIUM. Park in Aquarium area and walk to Trolley area. It is well marked.
6. How do I get to the nearest beach?
ANSWER: Follow directions for #1 above, but turn RIGHT on Marine Drive. Drive west toward the wonderful city of West Vancouver. You'll soon see AMBLESIDE PARK on your left. Turn in, park, and enjoy the beach. You can also WALK to this same beach. Please check info and walking map in your Chickadee Tree Vacation Suite Information Folder.
7. How do I get to West Vancouver?
ANSWER: Just follow the directions above in #6 but pass Ambleside Park. You're in West Van! Drive through West Van and keep going even further to visit our personal favourite, DUNDARAVE. Great beach, park, shops, and seawalk. Go down to the water and you’ll see a great place to buy burgers on the beach.
8. How do I get to the ferries to Vancouver Island and/or the Sunshine Coast? When and how often do the ferries sail?
ANSWER: Follow directions above in #1 to Taylor Way and go straight ahead at the stop light. You'll be entering Highway #1 going WEST. Takes about ten minutes along a very scenic drive to get to Horseshoe Bay and the ferries. Just follow the signs. To check ferry schedules and sailing times phone 1-888-223-3779 (this is a toll free number and a recorded message).
9. How do I get to Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains?
ANSWER: Same as #8 above, but instead of turning into Horseshoe Bay and the ferries, follow the signs to Whistler. This is well-marked. You can't miss it. It generally takes 1 1/2 hours to drive to Whistler. BUT, have you considered taking the train? It's a great ride through incredible scenery! 10. How do I get to Lonsdale Quay (pronounced KEY)?
ANSWER: Easiest way is to get on Highway #1 going EAST. Proceed to Taylor Way stop light as described in # 1 above. Turn LEFT, drive under the highway, then LEFT to get on the highway going EAST. Proceed to the Lonsdale Exit and exit. Turn RIGHT and drive down Lonsdale to the very end. You'll see water. Turn RIGHT and you're at the Quay! There is pay parking across the street from the Quay and free parking underneath.
11. How do I get to the Seabus that I can ride to the Convention Centre, Cruise Ship Terminal, and the Gastown area of Vancouver?
ANSWER: Go to Lonsdale Quay as described in # 10 above. Park, walk in, and watch for the Seabus signs. Get your ticket from the machines out front and enjoy the ride!
12. How do I get to Edgemont Village?
ANSWER: Follow directions in #10 above, but exit Highway #1 EAST at Capliano Road exit. Turn up or RIGHT on Capilano Road and drive to fIrst stop light which is Ridgewood Rd. Turn RIGHT. Drive 2/3 blocks to Edgemont Blvd. and turn RIGHT into the village. Enjoy yourself. This is one of our favourite little spots! There are a number of good places to eat in the village, a drug store, hairdressers, grocery, confectionery, chocolate shop, nursery, flower shops, library, STARBUCKS, bakery, and more. Around the corner from the Cobbs Bread bakery is a spot where you can get the BEST baguette sandwich we've ever tasted. Another outstanding place to eat is The Bakehouse located across the street and down the alley from the baguette sandwich place.
13. How do I get to the Capilano Suspension Bridge?
ANSWER: Head to Edgemont Village as in #12 above and you'll pass the suspension bridge as you drive up Capilano Road. The Bridge House Restaurant is just across the street.
14. How do I get to Grouse Mountain and the Skyride?
ANSWER: Same as #12 and #13 above, but just keep driving up Capilano Road. When you reach the very TOP, you'll be at the base of Grouse Mountain. Follow the signs to the Skyride and beyond! Oh, you can also HIKE UP Grouse Mountain. (They call it the GROUSE GRIND!). We have information, if you can't fInd it in your Chickadee Tree Information Folder.
15. How do I get to the Second Narrows Bridge?
ANSWER: Same as #10 above. Proceed EAST on Highway #1, but don't exit. Drive down "the cut" and across the bridge. Of course you'll want to exit sometime because, if you stay on Highway #1 to the end, it will take you all the way to Newfoundland!
